Tooth Whitening Offer - 100 Pounds Off!
A recent Daily Mail article highlighted the less reputable tooth whitening practices and products that are on the market. At Waddesdon Dental we offer a tried and tested course of action and we've also extended our offer of 100 Pounds off a treatment until the end of March as an incentive.
The article explains that certain tooth whitening products, sold over the internet, can damage the lining of the mouth. The consumer watchdog Which? recently revealed advertisements for such treatments on Amazon, eBay and Google, following which all three websites have now agreed to stop such goods being listed for sale on their pages.
EU legislation bans the sale of ‘over the counter’ or ‘online’ website teeth-whitening products that contain more than 0.1 per cent hydrogen peroxide or chemicals which release hydrogen peroxide. This limit was introduced in response to concerns that the substance could damage teeth, lips or gums.
Steve Cooley, Principal Dentist of MK Dental and Waddesdon Dental comments:
“We have been aware of these inferior products for some time now. Tooth whitening is really popular and if done properly, by a qualified practitioner, is safe, highly effective, and gives great results. The best methods fall into two categories, ‘in-chair whitening’ techniques carried out by a qualified dental practitioner in the surgery, ‘home whitening’ carried out under the supervision of a qualified dental practitioner. The over the counter, unsupervised website whitening kits can lead to problems and should be avoided at all costs.”
Consider these points if considering tooth whitening:
- Different teeth have different reactions to whitening. Many different factors affect the level of whitening which can be achieved. Some patients will experience superb results while others only get a small improvement. Ask your dentist what level of success could be achieved.
- Always consult your dentist. If you are interested in tooth whitening ask our advice. We are here to help and will recommend safe treatments that will cause you no harm. Tooth whitening can be carried out at the surgery, or at home under the supervision of your dentist.
- If you have sound, good looking teeth, which you simply wish to whiten, a degree of whitening is almost guaranteed but if the improvement is not sufficient after the initial course of treatment you may wish to supplement the treatment over a longer period.
- Be cautious when buying tooth whitening kits on the Internet. If in doubt call your dentist for their opinion. Buying tooth whitening kits online can seem incredibly cheap, but remember, if something looks too cheap, there is a reason for this. Again, ask your dentist for advice.
Finally, tooth whitening kits are safe and work incredibly well. The British Dental Association recommends a number of good kits, many of which are available from Waddesdon Dental so why not book an appointment to discuss what we recommend.
